It's my job to help people make the most of where they live, in a way that expresses their individual sense of style. I strive to create rooms that are simple and well edited but still have personality. The last thing I want is for someone to walk into a home I've worked on and think, "Rachel Halvorson's been here." I'm not out to make a bunch of "me" houses. Boring! I want to create spaces for people that are unique to them. I want their friends to walk in for the first time and say, "Man, this is just so you."”

Let's back up a little. After graduating with a B.A. in Interior Design from the University of Georgia's Lamar Dodd School of Art, I cut my teeth working for firms in Birmingham - my hometown - and Nashville, where my husband Hoyt and I have lived since 2008. In 2009, I opened my own firm, Rachel Halvorson Designs.

I saw that there was a need in this market for an interior designer who understands how young Nashvillians want to live. They're looking for interiors that are cool and comfortable, but that don't cost an arm and two legs. With this in mind, I came up with my company motto: "A fresh approach to affordable interiors." I live by this slogan, both in how I run my company and when it comes to choosing content to post on Nest Egg, my design blog.

Bottom line: I love what I do. So much in fact that sometimes I find myself jumping up and down over towel bars. I believe in the beauty of all the little details that make up a home. And it is so rewarding to see the joy on my clients' faces when it all comes together. Like they're seeing their best self in the mirror. It's beautiful, comfortable... and so you.
